REYNIER LEYVA NOVO
(b. Havana, 1983)
Mr. Leyva Novo graduated from the “José Antonio Díaz Peláez” Experimental Art Center in 1998, the San Alejandro School of Fine Arts in 2003, and was the Chair of Behavior Art directed by Tania Bruguera in 2007, all of them in Havana, Cuba. From 2004 to 2008 he attended studies at the Higher Art Institute in Havana. Among his solo exhibitions are National Sport (Salle Zero, Alliance Française, Havana, Cuba, 2010); 50th Anniversary Collection (Center for the Development of Visual Arts, Havana, Cuba, 2009); By an Endless Trail (Museum of Colonial Art, Havana, Cuba, 2009); and Metaphors of the Existence (Morro-Cabaña Park, Havana, Cuba, 2003). He has also participated in relevant group shows like Touched (Liverpool Biennial, Liverpool, United Kingdom, 2010); Coca-colonized (Brot Kunsthalle, Vienna, Austria, 2010); Serendipity (Portugal Biennial Arte10, Portugal, 2010); The Downpour, the Nap, the Sugarcane Crop and the Tobacco (31st Pontevedra Biennial, Pontevedra Museum, Galicia, Spain, 2010); I Shot the Sheriff. Heroes and Villains (Open Studio 4.0, Madrid, Spain, 2010); Confluences Inside II. Contemporary Cuban Art (National Hispanic Center Art Museum, Alburquerque, New Mexico, USA, 2009); and The body is bodies. Cuban photographs and videos (Jesús Gallardo Gallery, Guanajuato, México, 2009), among others.
